3) Sometimes my safeguard picks up some serious activity in vacuum and retards the timing. One time I was on the hwy in 5th at light throttle and it retarded 10 degrees of timing in one cylinder.

Holy Cow, I can't believe you guys are having this problem too. I've been having this problem for about 3 months now and can't figure it out. It's exactly as you guys described it:

When running at part throttle...very constant speed...between 2K and 3K RPM's... suddenly the A/F guage drops off the lean side and if I try to give the car gas it hic-ups a couple times and then runs fine. If I continue to drive at the same speed the A/F guage will return to normal after about 5-7 seconds.

I recently gutted my cat and I was assuming that the turbulance inside the cat was causing a mis-reading from the primary O2 sensor. This is a really annoying problem and I'd love to fix it...Please Help!!!

Also, for those of you who have gutted your cat.....does anyone know how to stop it from rattling so much. My cat sounds like a rabbid cat chasing 6 squirrels inside a tin garbage can.

It's interesting to hear what you guys are describing. I had had the SC on my car for about 6 months and my car had only 14K miles on it. At the time all I had was a JRSC, short intake, fuel pump, Fields fuel/VTEC, and colder plugs. This happened to me a few months ago for about 1 1/2 tanks full of gas. When cruising around 2 and 3K RPM's I would get "hiccups" as you guys had described. I took it back to the installer and he test drove it and it never did it again, go figure. I did put some fuel injector cleaner in my tank in the interim, maybe you should give that a try. Good luck.

FYI: I actually saw a change for the richer on my A/F gauge after using two bottles of Gumout Regain injector cleaner. This was with stock injectors with about 5X,XXX miles.

hmmmm.... you say fuel injector cleaner helped some?

After reading that, I just realized that I used some NOS octane booster a few days before all of this started happening. I'm wondering if that stuff messed something up. I've always heard that octane booster leaves deposits in the engine. Maybe my car just needs some cleaner.

To everyone with similar problems... have you all used NOS octane booster before?

I used NOS octane booster once and didn't suffer any ill effects.
